Working with our partners:

Parents and families are our key partners in supporting young deaf children. It is most helpful to have a holistic view of your child and their progress, so we work together with a range of key ‘partners’, such as:

  • The Children’s Hearing Centre
  • West of England Hearing Implant Centre (WEHIP)
  • Health Visitors
  • Early Year’s Settings (nurseries and childminders)
  • Educational settings and Schools
  • FE Colleges and Sixth Form Centres
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Other medical practitioner if involved (paediatricians , physios etc)

Educational Audiology

We have Educational audiology provision across all ages from a fully qualified Educational Audiologist (Teacher of the Deaf with additional training) and an Audiology Technician. The role of this provision is to oversee the management of effective use of hearing technology to maximise the access to speech, contribute to the paediatric hearing assessment and hearing review clinics, provide support in interpreting to colleagues/parents/pupils audiological assessment results and explain educational implications of these. This involves assessment of potential benefits of radio systems and setting up and balancing radio systems.

The Educational Audiologist also has an important role in ensuring that staff are up to date with the any developments in audiology e.g. new equipment and providing specialist support and training to outside agencies.
